Like every year, between mid-August and mid-September, we see the return of ragweed pollen. A plant native to North America, it has a very strong impact on the quality of life of people with allergies, and this includes our children!
In France, 1 to 3 million people are believed to be affected because they are allergic to ragweed. Symptoms detected are sneezing, nasal obstruction, conjunctivitis, redness or swelling of the eyelids. According to the French National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health Safety (ANSES).
During the period when ragweed pollens return, several measures are recommended for people with allergies.
If your children are also affected, here are 5 recommended actions:
1-Avoid outdoor activities for your children (unfortunately in this summer period, it is not easy, but think about your children's overexposure to pollen);
2-Do not dry your children's laundry outside (to avoid pollens on their clothes);
3-Do not open the windows of your car (use air conditioning, especially in the heat of summer!);
4-Rinse your children's hair well in the evening (to avoid sleeping with their head in the pollen!);
5-Air your home early in the morning and late at night.
Ragweed pollen can cause symptoms in allergy sufferers, but also make healthy children allergic. ANSES notes that "Ragweed pollen allergy can affect any individual, as long as they have undergone sufficiently intense and prolonged exposure."
