A sentence that can take us on a roller-coaster of emotions that could go from excitement, happiness, or disbelief, to stress and anxiety in a split of a second!
Not everyone takes this news the same way, and if for some people it might be the best day of their life, for others, and for many different reasons, this news might not be what they were hoping for.
Some people will start planning right away, others will just take their time, those who already have been down this road might be the more easy going, but in the end of the day, everyone in their own way want the best for their babies. So we start making lists: what to buy, where to buy it from, when to buy it. We start asking around, friends, family, to see who can sell us or lend us their old crib, or their stroller, etc.
It is estimated that around 20% of your income will be spent monthly on baby after he or she is born and that during the 3 first years of baby’s life the biggest investment parents make (around 25% of the total cost) will be made before baby’s arrival on the essentials (and not so essential) baby’s equipment.
Before you start buying, it is always recommended that you ask around to see what you can borrow for a short period of time, especially material that has a short life usage or seasonal usage!
We all know, for example, that a cradle will only be used for 4 to 6 months, as will the stroller bassinet. The same goes for the steriliser of the baby bottles. Some parents will only use it until baby starts eating diversified food, some other parents might use it the first couple of months to prevent bacteria and then stop but then again it is not a product that you will use on long term.
Babies and children tend to grow fast and by next season they will not only not fit in the same pair of shoes but also will have outgrown this inflatable pool you bought for the warm summer days! Instead of buying it and worrying later about reselling it or stocking it, just rent it for the couple of warm months and then send it on its way to make some other child as happy as yours was!
We all want the best of our kids, and we want them to be able to profit from everything, to have the best room, the best toys, the best clothes, and in this ever-changing fast world, sometimes the best way is to limit our mass consumption for financial and environmental reasons and just hop on the train of the sharing community economy.
We are waiting for you to join us !
